Utah Teachers Push for Salary Increase
Hundreds of teachers carried signs advocating for a 6% pay increase in front of the Salt Lake City Board of Education. The city’s education association is now proposing a strike in response to the board’s lack of action. Other districts throughout the state have increased teacher pay. The association also plans to push for more personal days and capped class sizes.
Even with a 6% increase, the district would still be behind many other districts. Recent surveys have shown that teachers in the state are leaving schools more than ever before in response to low salary.
