Utah Seeks Solutions for Cleaner Air
Representative John Curtis is committed to proposing solutions for air pollution throughout the state. Northern Utah’s Wasatch Front Region contains one of the highest levels of pollution in the country during the wintertime. In an effort to combat emissions, statewide clean air partnerships are encouraging use of public transit, telecommuting, and carpooling. Utah’s Legislature committed over half a million dollars for a pilot program that offers free fare on certain days. The goal is to make the transit system more affordable and accessible.
Other strategies include increased bicycle infrastructure in areas with high levels of pollution. Additionally, the areas could benefit from a reduction in the number of residents that commute long distances to work. Discussions on strategies for decreasing the number of individual automobiles on the road are expected to continue.
